BBB: TIPS TO MAKE YOUR HOME ENTERTAINMENT FRIENDLY

It’s football season, the holidays are upon us, and millions of families are hosting guests in their homes over the next few months, so today I want to talk about the best ways to make your home entertainment friendly! This also applies to anyone who's searching for their next home with event hosting in mind.

Let’s start with your home.

  • Is it an open concept or more closed off?

  • Spacious or quaint?

It’s possible to make ANY home an entertainer's dream. In fact, a traditional style dining room is perfect for a classic Thanksgiving meal, as is a state-of-the-art kitchen with a functional eat-in area. It’s all about working with what you’ve got!

Here are four tips for making your home the perfect party spot:

1. SET THE MOOD WITH LIGHTING, MUSIC, AND DECOR

Lighting is one of the most overlooked aspects of any event. Opening up curtains & blinds make a home more inviting and dim lighting can make an event feel more intimate. Don’t forget you can also decorate your outdoor space with inexpensive string lights, which make a huge impression! Music is a key factor in any gathering. Studies have shown that music has a huge impact on the brain by elevating mood, increasing communication, and reducing stress. Whether you install a sound system or whip out your Alexa, choose music that fits accordingly. Decor can completely change the feel of a room: add mirrors to make a small room feel larger, mix & match textures such as leather with soft blankets & pillows. If you have a theme for your event, try to dress up existing items with ribbons, knick-knacks, and other decorative items. There is so much you can do on a budget by getting creative.

2. UTILIZE YOUR SPACE EFFECTIVELY - If you have an abundance of countertops, that is the perfect place to set out a buffet. An adjoining room? This offers a great way for your guests to feel like they're able to move about. If you have sliding doors that lead to your backyard, open those up! If your home is more closed off, plan ahead for how you want your guests to flow throughout the event.

Tip: Use your space to its maximum potential: one room for appetizers & cocktails, a more formal dining area for the meal, and a sitting area for coffee & dessert.

3. GET OUTSIDE- If you have space, consider an outdoor entertainment area. If your budget allows, consider an outdoor kitchen. This can be as elaborate as something you’d see on HGTV with built-ins & a wet bar to something more straightforward, like a grill & casual seating. Let’s be honest, NOBODY is going to turn away free food & drinks, either way!

4. MIX UP YOUR SEATING

Depending on your party size, you can easily use all types of furniture in your home- couches, ottomans, stools, even benches. It may even be worth investing in some storage-friendly folding chairs or renting barstools & high tops, which are great for a cocktail style party, to keep people moving.

Lastly- remember your guests are there because they want to spend time with YOU, and that’s most important.
